Wrangling Translation

I keep repeating to myself that picking up a co-wrangler for the Teen Wolf fandom was the best thing I could've ever done. Not only we had a 3 hour-long wrangling party trying to put some order in the chaos that are additional tags (also known as freeforms), but my co-wrangler turns up on every committee I need to work with in my capacity os Translation chair.

It's incredibly awesome because it makes me feel more at ease when I reach out to those committees. It's like when you hate bothering strangers with things you think you should know, but it's perfectly okay to bother somebody you know with them. That's how I feel.
Did that explanation even made sense to people who didn't spend the past 13 hours in front of a computer?)

Weekly Recap

- some of my TV shows are returning but I'm already terribly behind. I managed to stay on top of Switched at Birth (I remeber the time when my fic was the only SaB fic on AO3... As opposed to now, when there are two fics) because that show is adorable. I'm a masochist who loves music, so I'm still watching Glee. There's also Doctor Who and Leverage. I have to be really excited about a show to watch it now that I have little free time available (or you have to be Glee which I can't seem to STOP watching...). We'll see how that goes when all my previous shows premire... I will give up sleep probably.

- On Tranlastion front I'm very excited about getting a new staffer. God, do we need manpower.

- I'm learning about editing wiki, because I want to revamp Translation pages. I learned basic HTML, I can learn this. Though I suspect I will stumble here and there. I'm excited because once I get all the codes down I will be able not only edit the org wiki but I will be able to add stuff to Fanlore. My contributions so far have been brief and uninspiring.

- I think I need to teach myself PHP and Drupal too, or at least research it enough to know what I'm talking about when I go bother Webmasters about shiny things translators could use on our interface.

- I tried learning RubyonRails, because there's a very fun tutorial online, but it's something I had to push on my "Later if I have a lot of time" list.

*sigh*
I have so many plans and things I want to do and things I want to try. I think I need a good 5-year Plan. Possibly in Excel. I really REALLY love Excel.

Hi *waves* I "found" you while looking for OTW staffers on dw - always nice to talk about it with people who are actually interested instead of my flist ;)

I can understand "want to learn all the tech stuff" so well. Currently I'd like to start with CSS, but I have no idea when I'll get around to it.

Basic wiki editing is relatively easy. You don't need the complicated things for "normal" edits, and definitely not for Fanlore. All contributions are great :D Feel free to ask questions if you have any (that's what our gardeners are for), and we're planning another editing chats for (new) people with questions soon.

I'm always happyy to meet people who know what I'm rambling about. MY LJ flist is remarkably uninterested about OTW (;___;) but I met mostly of them in RL so there's no running away from them. Looking forward to chatting about the org with you :)

Sometimes I wish day had more hours so I could learn the stuff that fascinates me, but I usually realize quickly that work/other things would eat up those extra hours too.

I know, intelectually, that you don't need much wiki coding skills to contribute to Fanlore, but like with the regular Wikipedia I'm intimidated and a littl afraid that I will break something with my lack of skills and then what? IN my head? I mgith as well be singlehandedly responsible for bringing down the biggest resource on fandom history. (I am extremely talented like that in my head)

Yeah, every time I wish for a time turner/time machine I realize that I most likely wouldn't use those extra hours productively either *sigh* (That depends on your definition of productive, of course. I'm currently doing a lot of OTW work because I use it to procrastinate on studying for university, but it's not a good long-term strategy -.- )

You can't break Fanlore! People with much worse intentions have tried and failed. But no pressure :) We're always happy to have new contributors.

Oh, I count OTW work as very productive, even if sometimes it feels like all I'm doing is answering emails :P Bt I sometimes wish for extra time in the day to watch the lastet episode of Leverage and maybe reblog stuff on Tumblr (I just realized I haven't been on Tumblr since last Wednesday... wow) You know, relaxing stuff that I have labeled in my time tracking software as "Timewasters".

If you really believe I can't break it then I suppose I'll go and open it in one of my Firefox tabs to add to it in my free time (or inbetween work as a form of relaxation :P)

The latest Leverage episodes were fantastic! :D Definitely worth "wasting time" for. I stopped tracking my time because I constantly forgot about it anyway, but I´m not sure I even want to know how much would be not-productive things.

You really can´t! (You might accidentally start a long discussion with many misunderstandings about what deserves its own page and if the OTW is disrespecting podfic, but that´s Wiki´s job to handle. ^^)

Technically for me, it also involves Tag Wrangling and Translating stuff when needed and/or I have time.

(And just so you know I am totally blaming you for spending the last 30 minuted researching reference material on Vhelton. But hey, I learned ho to make reference links! :))

That wasn´t knowledge, that was incomplete information, because I forgot that anything in tags won´t show up properly. I´ll risk IDEAS, capital letters ;) References show up if you add < references/ > (without the spaces) to the end of the page.
